Gay dating websites benefit from increasingly sophisticated matchmaking software

As the gay dating scene online has continue to grow, so has the technology used to match couples together, and just over a decade after being set up, online dating looks set to be a £150million a year industry by 2014.

Despite the age old saying that opposites attract, gay dating sites are now employing sophisticated matching technology that looks at different factors in your life to match couples.

Karl Gregory from one of the original dating sites, Match.com revealed that he believes the improvements made in the technology are the key to success for the industry.

Gregory explained, “We invest significant time and money to evolve our matching technology. We have created services for different audience segments because we know that people like to search for love in different ways.”

The software works by giving new registrants a list of questions, with some sites offering up to 4000, which the single registrants fill in when they have time. The more questions they answer, the more likely the computer is to find a match, and the system tries to match like minded people, based in its success in the past.

Gay dating sites are also monitoring your activity on site, which helps them help you find someone who’s right for you. If you are constantly searching for a non smoking partner for instance, they will add that into your list of preferences.

Not all gay dating sites do the matching for you. Some of the app based sites merely use your location to find like minded singles in the area, and leave the rest up to you.

Will Miller of my single friend understands that his companies technology won’t always work, explaining, “sometimes we’re not attracted to 100% matches relationships are about compromise and often mismatches. That’s what makes it interesting.”
