How To Find Love On The internet

Finding love on the internet is not difficult depending on whether you are a beginner or you are experienced at dating.  However, once you have met someone that you think may have potential how do you go about making the first moves?

Only you know when you have met the right person, you might get a feeling, have lots of things in common or share the same ideals and dreams. You have taken a good look at their profile and plucked up the courage to send them a message via the internet dating site. You need to keep the first message, short, simple but sweet. Don’t give too much away. They don’t want to hear your life story just yet! Don’t use cheesy one liners or something you would use to pick up a guy in the pub because this just won’t cut it on a gay dating site.

If you get a response from them, be cool, don’t reply straight away otherwise they will think that you are too keen. Similarly, you don’t want them thinking that you are playing it too cool so reply within a day of receiving their message.  In the beginning it is worthwhile using the facilities that the online dating website offers you in terms of messaging other members. You don’t want to give out your personal email address to every guy that you see on the site because otherwise you’d be overrun with messages. In this instance it is worth being picky about the guys you give your details out to.  Once you feel comfortable with someone, progress to giving out personal email address or mobile phone numbers.

When getting to know a potential new partner avoid being negative and talking extensively about your past relationships or lovers. Although this might have made up a significant part of your life, you are embarking on something new with them. If in the past you have been dumped, avoid sounding like a victim and don’t overly criticise your ex. Everyone makes mistakes in past relationships and you will be no different.  You want to start of this new relationship on a good positive note.

It is advisable to always appear interested in their life, their hobbies and interest. Make them feel comfortable in talking about themselves and encourage them to share their stories with you and vice-versa.

If all goes well whilst talking over emails or on the telephone it is worth considering meeting up.  When arranging your first date with your new man always make sure that somebody knows where you are going, who with, what time you intend to be home and take a mobile phone with you that has a fully charged battery.  For the sake of your own safety it is not worth taking the risks.  Although it is not common, it has happened on online dating sites that people turn out not to be who they say they are and you should be aware of this.

When deciding on something to wear for your first date, choose something that is appropriate to the location of your first date.  If you are going for a low key evening to the cinema or just for a coffee in a cafe you don’t want to wear your best shirt (save that for your second, third or fourth date!). Make a point to pay a compliment to your date on what they are wearing or their hair cut. It can put a person at ease, as people can get especially nervous on their first date.
